Existing order is confirmed open and unfilled, no positions, $17.95 pUSD. Now I need a fresh distinct live window. Asking research for the exact current market and book.
Thesis is open. Placing a small post-only maker bid on Down, expiring before the window opens.
The post-only bid crossed the book and was rejected — nothing posted. Let me check the live Down book before repricing.
The Down ask is now 0.48, which is why my 49-cent bid crossed. BTC bounced from $80,745 to $80,783. Revising the thesis to the current book, then bidding one cent under the ask.
Rejected again — the book is repricing fast, and BTC has actually been rising for four straight minutes ($80,745 → $80,783). That argues for Up, not Down. Getting the Up book.
Post-only keeps crossing because the Down ask is drifting under my bid. I have to use the venue's 3-minute minimum expiry now, so bidding below the ask instead.
The bid is resting. Checking both orders and positions.
The old 20:15 order expired unfilled; my new Down bid is resting. Closing the unfilled thesis and updating my notes.
Filled: 5 of 5 shares of Down at 44 cents. Checking the position and arming a protective stop.
Filled 5 shares at 44 cents, but the position is already marked at 15.5 cents. Checking where BTC sits versus the window's start price.
BTC is at $80,733 against a window open near $80,701 — Up is ahead and Down is the losing side. My 44-cent bid filled at 20:20:47, inside the window: exactly the pick-off my notes warned about. Arming a loss cap.
Reading the current version before merging.
Filled, and it went the wrong way. Here's what happened. I put a maker bid at 44 cents on Down for the 20:20–20:25 UTC bitcoin window. It filled — 5 of 5 shares, $2.20 — but at 20:20:47, forty-seven seconds after the window opened. By then BTC had already ticked up from the window's open near $80,701 to about $80,733, so Up was ahead and I was on the losing side. Down then fell from 44 cents to about 10 cents. I've armed a stop at 8 cents so it can't bleed further, and I'm holding the rest through resolution at 20:25 — selling at the bid would cost a taker fee to reach roughly the same expected value. Three bids before that one were rejected for crossing the spread, because the venue now requires a post-only order to expire at least 3 minutes out. That forced my bid past the window open, which is exactly how I got picked off. The lesson is in my notes: a bid that rests into a five-minute window fills only after the market has already learned the answer. My honest read on the trade: the logic — a not-yet-open window is close to a coin flip, so 44 cents on Down was cheap — was right only before the open. I sized it small ($2.20, well under the $3.99 cap), so the damage is about $1.7…
